Experience and Education
Desert Nomad Yoga is owned and operated by Donna Stewart. Donna has been practicing yoga for ten years and teaching for seven. Her form of yoga is influenced by several different disciplines, but primarily Astanga, Anasura, Vinyasa, Kripalu and Iyengar, which incorporates into a style that is dynamic, builds muscle, tone & flexibility through a flowing practice that addresses the mind as well as the body. Studying other traditions and philosophies add different dimensions to each class. Some classes even incorporate teachings from Joseph Pilates or Aikido. Each class offers students the opportunity to set their own pace, whether they want to challenge themselves, play or just be in the moment.
Donna originally apprenticed with an Astanga yoga instructor and since then has studied independently, as well as with other instructors in Colorado. After several years of study, she pursued her yoga certification with The Shambhava School of Yoga. A life-time learner, Donna is constantly studying, attending workshops and training to expand her knowledge so that she has more to share with her students and is constantly refining how she teaches. She also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Writing, and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. Part of her ongoing education includes the study of body centered psychotherapies, which is sometimes incorporated in her yoga instruction. In addition, Donna has spent seven years working as a Research Associate at Lore International Institute focusing much of her research efforts on behavioral change and coaching. She assisted Lore CEO, Terry Bacon, in the research and publication of three books on the subject: Winning Behavior: What the Smartest, Most Successful Businesses Do Differently, Adaptive Coaching: The Art and Practice of a Client-Centered Approach to Performance Improvement and The Behavioral Advantage: What the Smartest, Most Successful Companies Do Differently to Win in the B2B Arena.
Settings
For those interested in a business group program, Donna has over five years experience teaching and working in business settings on behalf of employee wellness. She has also taught teen classes for Colorado Timberline Academy as well as for the City of Durango, using an approach that particularly appeals to teens and those who may have found yoga difficult to focus on in the past. |
